Shopping was cool here and also there were lots of good places to eat.

Mozart was from Salzburg. They let you know this when you're in town. Aside from being famous for making music, he also was a fine candy maker. They push these candies on you called Mirabel Mozartkugeln or what I call Mozart Balls.

Beautiful, but very uncomfortable, church pew in the church that Mozart was baptized in. He also was the church organist for a time.

"Pipes through the ages". The way they mine salt is that they drill a hole, fill it with water, pump the salty water out, and then evaporate the water. They used to use wooden pipes believe it or not.

This is actual salt on the wall. Notice the moisture from people licking it.

This is the slide you can go down in the mine. I'll admit i wanted to chicken out. Lisa thought it was cool however so we went.

We went by this lake on our sound of music tour. I was apparently the only person on the tour who hadn't seen the movie. Being on a bus full of Americans singing along to the sound of music songs seemed smaltzy to me.

This is the red domed abbey where Maria was a Nun as a girl. This is where they actually got married. They wouldn't let them film inside so they filmed the wedding scenes somewhere else.

Lisa and I in front of the Gazeebo where the "Gazeebo Scene" where they dance around was filmed. It is locked now because people were reinacting the scene jumping from bench to bench and would break limbs.

Lisa and I in front of the main dude from the sound of music (capt somebody) house. This is where they filmed the "back of the house" scenes and one of the little children almost drowned in this lake during filming.

The funniest thing about this picture is that we didn't know we had to pay 1 Euro to use this prop. We didn't know it till after we took 2 pictures. Enjoy this one, it's a 5 dollar picture.

An automated pez dispenser. You put money in, pez comes out as the story goes.

Lisa and I went on a USO trip to Bern, Switzerland. Bern is the capital of Switzerland and a major shopping/banking center.

This is Bern a week or so after we left. Major flooding.

Lisa and some flowers. She knew the name of the flowers and was apparently impressed by their size. She wanted to take a picture with them. Feel free to be impressed if you know what kind of flowers these are.

Bern was named after the Bear. These bears are brown bears which are slightly smaller than a Grizzly. Also, the Brown Bear doesn'nt have its own basket ball team as the Grizzlies do. Legend (a legend is an old rumor) has it that the guy who founded Bern didn't know what to name it and decided to name it after the first animal he killed, which happend to be a bear. A lesser known nearby town is named squirrel.

This guy is either shoveling or spearing an armadillo.

The woman in the pink jacket farthest away is Lisa. The woman in the pink jacket nearest to us is Belle. We met her at IKEA in passing one Saturday and Lisa sees her everywhere now.

The church pews could be flipped either way so that you could catch all the action. If you can see the two slots on the end of the pew. The could also be stopped halfway so you can lean on them and appear to be standing.

The sculpture that was over the door of the Bern Cathedral. It is a woman cutting the head off of a snake.

What I dubbed "The Plunger Game", We never figured out how it worked, but it looked complicated.

Famous clock tower in Bern. Official Swiss time is kept here. Where Bern was established was originally covered by an Oak forrest. They cut it all down and built this clock among other things.

Lisa about to sneeze. We were trying to decide where to eat. We ended up eating Fondue which I found out is just melted cheese. I am not too "fondue" of it. I ate a "Farmers Platter" which contained no actual farmer, just a sausage and hash browns.

Me enjoying a refreshing glass of Rivella. I know it sounds like an intestinal disorder. As in, "I went to Bern and caught Rivella." But it is a refreshing soda drink derived from milk. Who would have thought cows had it in 'em.
